Call Before You Dig

Before starting any excavation or landscaping work, be sure to call before you dig. To get facilities marked, you can now make one easy phone call to 811 from anywhere in the United States.  Your call will be routed to the appropriate One-Call Center. You can also contact your state’s center directly by contacting:

Make sure to call at least three working days before starting a project. One-Call operators will notify member utilities that they need to mark the location of underground lines. Utility companies will then send a professional to mark lines at no charge.

The representative will ask for the following information: County township or municipality, section number, type of work, street address, extent of work, name of caller, title of caller, start date, start time, contractor, contractor's address and best time to call back. When you start digging, try to stay at least 24 inches away from the marked lines. If you're planting a tree, remember to consider the length of the roots as the tree matures, and don't plant larger trees below overhead power lines.
